"And then they both got suspended. It was probably the highlight of my whole highschool life." I said to Matt through the house phone. It's Saturday night and as per normal I have nothing to do.

"I'm proud of you. They all got what they deserve." He said quickly. He seemed distracted.

"Are you ok? You don't really seem like you want to talk." I said.

"I'm fine. I'm just...with Damien." He said.

"Oh...OH!" I emphasised on the second 'oh' when I realised what was going on.

"I didn't know you two were back together...or whatever it is you two are." I said.

"Yeah, well we are. I'm gunna have to call you back. Ok, bye." I said and then the line went dead.

I looked at the blank screen on my phone and then threw it on my bed. I couldn't help but feel kind of jealous. I mean, I'm happy for Matt and Damien, but I just wish I had something like that, someone to hang out with on a saturday night.

"Summer!" I heard my Dad calling from downstairs.

Great, what am I in trouble for now? I walked out of my bedroom, down the stairs and into the living room where my Mom and Dad were standing. They were all dressed up.

"What's up?" I asked them.

"Your Mom and I are going out with Oliver's parents. I'm sure you'll be fine by yourself for one night. If anything goes wrong, Oliver will be next door. But I'd rather you didn't have him over. You know how we feel when you're alone with a boy." My Dad said.

"What time will you be back?" I asked.

"Probably late. Don't get into any trouble." He said.

"Ok." I said simply.

"Alright. Bye honey, we'll see you later." My Mom said.

She kissed me on the cheek and so did my Dad, then they both left the house. When I watched them leave I noticed it was pouring down with rain. I looked around at the large, empty room. It was so quiet, other than the sound of rain on the roof. Now what do I do?

I went back upstairs and into my room. I looked over to Oliver's room to see the light on, but the room was empty. I could go and ask if he wanted to hang out, but I didn't know if that would seem weird or not. I couldn't tell if we were still just acquantances or if we were friends yet.

I decided to just stay by myself. I opened my clothes drawers and pulled out a white tank top, my beloved spongebob pyjama shorts and under garments. I took them into the bathroom and turned the shower on. I'm sure a nice long shower will cure me of my boredom for now.

I had just finished washing my hair when there was a loud crack of thunder and then the lights went out and the water stopped running.

"You've gotta be kidding me." I whispered to myself.

I turned the faucet so the water wouldn't start running again when the power came back on. I stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around myself. I walked over to the light switch and flicked it on and off, but nothing happened.

"Stupid freaking storm!" I complained.

There was a bright flash of lightening and another loud crash of thunder which made me jump.

"Calm down...it's just a stupid storm." I said to myself. I've got to stop talking to myself.

Then I heard a door close downstairs. I made my way over to the bathroom window and opened the curtains. My parents car wasn't here. Then who the hell is in my house?

I quickly got dressed in my clothes and opened the bathroom door. The hallway was pitch black so I couldn't see a thing. I tip toed as quietly as I could down the hallway to my bedroom and pushed the door open. I found my desk and picked up my mobile. I knew my room well enough to know that there was an umbrella standing next to my door. It's not exactly an ideal weapon of choice, but it'll do. So I picked it up too and continued to walk down the hallway.

I got to the stairs and squinted so I could see if someone was down there.

"Hello?" I called out.

I got no reply. I'm probably just imagining things. I dropped the umbrella at the top of the stairs and carefully walked down them. I was going to walk into the kitchen to find a flash light when I swear I saw a movement.

"Shit." I muttered and got my phone. I was beyond freaked out by now.

I typed in Oliver's name and pressed call. I put the phone to my ear and waited for it to connect to Oliver, but then I heard music. I turned around and looked into the living room and saw a light flashing. The light showed the silhouette of a person. That sneaky little idiot.

"Guess who." I heard Oliver's voice

I walked over to him and hit his arm.

"You jerk!" I said and hit him again.

"Calm down." He said and tried to stop me from hitting him.

"No! You suck. You scared the hell out of me. I hate you!" I yelled at him.

I stopped hitting him only to notice that he was laughing.

"Why are you laughing? You scared me half to death." I said and crossed my arms.

"That's what's so funny." He said.

I sat down on the couch and pouted. I felt him sit down next to me.

"What are you doing here anyway?" I asked.

"The power went out so I came over to see if you were ok. The door was unlocked." He explained.

"So you just decided to scare the hell out of me instead?" I asked.

"Hmm yeah, pretty much." He said.

I kept on pouting with my arms crossed and looked away from him. He couldn't really see me anyway so there wasn't much point in the pouting.

"Don't be like that." He said and nudged me.

"I'm not talking to you." I said.

"You don't mean that." He said and poked the side of my stomach. My stomach didn't hurt anymore, so it just tickled slightly.

I kept quiet to prove that I didn't want to speak to him. So he started tickling me which caused me to laugh.

"Stop it." I said through my laughter.

"I'll stop when you start talking to me again." He said.

"Ok ok. You're forgiven." I said.

His hands rested on my waist for a second before he pulled them away.

"So uh... do you have any candles or anything?" He asked.

"I think so. I'll be back." I said.

I got up and walked out of the living room and into the kitchen. I rummaged through the drawers until I found 2 candles and a box of matches. I went back into the living room and put the candles on the coffee table. I lit a match and then lit the candles.

"I have created light." I said, accomplished.

"That's great. Now I can see your pyjamas that look like they're meant for a 7 year old." He said.

"Hey! I just forgave you and now you're making fun of me?" I questioned.

"I say it with love." He joked.

"Yeah, whatever." I said.

There was yet another loud crack of thunder which startled me and caused me to jump.

"Scared?" Oliver asked.

"Of course not." I said. But that was a lie. Underneath this fake persona was still that girly girl who got scared of storms every once in a while.

"It's ok. Big strong Oliver is here to keep you safe." He said and put his arm around my shoulder.

I stiffened for a second at this sudden change of proximity, but then relaxed and just went with it.

"So, why aren't you with your boyfriend tonight?" He asked.

"He isn't my boyfriend." I said. I was getting a little bit sick of repeating this.

"So you're single now?" He asked.

"Yep. What's it to ya?" I asked?

"No reason." He said.

There was a much louder clash of thunder which made me move closer to Oliver.

"Do you want to know what would make you not scared?" He asked.

"What?" I replied and looked up at him.

"This." He said and leaned in towards me.
